This on-of-a-kind vintage plaid or blanket, a so called Kantha, is made in Bangladesh under the supervision of an NGO. With their training programs they support and empower minorities and vulnerable groups. The handicraft section of this NGO is specialised in hand stitched blankets, made from recycled sari’s. With the income the women generate some extra income for themselves and their families.
Stitching one blanket or plaid takes about one month. The women can organise their own working hours and work in the close surroundings of their homes. This allows them to combine work and taking care of their children and homes. From the NGO they receive a living wage which contributes to a basic but decent standard of living. The price for this blanket is therefore fair and contributing to a better life for these families.
